Basic information about the widget

Add the SDR Calculator widget to your Dashboard to quickly estimate the maximum amount of compensation for damaged or lost goods in international transport.

SDR (Special Drawing Rights) is an international accounting unit used, for instance, in the CMR Convention.
SDR calculates the maximum amount of compensation for damaged or lost goods in international transport (up to SDR 8.33 per kg, unless the parties have agreed on a higher value of the transported goods).

The SDR Calculator widget:

  • belongs to widgets from the Information category,
  • is intended for ordering parties,
  • presents data according to the exchange rate of the National Bank of Poland,
  • presents data in historical time (the rate of the previous working day),
  • can be added to your Dashboard only once.

Widget navigation

The main elements of the widget are:

  1. Calculator display with a field to enter the total weight of the goods, a button to calculate the value and the result and/or recommendation.
Carrier's liability up to the amount shows the value of the maximum financial liability of the carrier based on the SDR exchange rate in accordance with Article 23 of the CMR Convention.
  1. Arrow - when clicked, a window with filters slides out.

The filters you can choose from are:

  • Currency - the default value set is PLN. Select the required currency from the drop-down list.
  • Converter - weight of the goods in kilograms or tons (the default value is kg).
  • Carrier's liability - Calculating the maximum is set as the default value. Alternatively, you can select the option: Verification.
Maximum calculation is used to estimate the maximum possible amount of compensation.
Verification is used to compare the calculated amount with the actual offer of the carrier.

  1. Date of data source refresh.

How to analyze data

The SDR calculator calculates the value of transported goods in SDR based on the selected currency.

  1. Add the Euro exchange rate widget to your Dashboard.
Read Widgets - basic information article to learn how to add a widget to your Dashboard.
  1. Click the blue arrow and set the filters.

Example 1:

The selected currency is EUR, the converter - Tons, the carrier's liability - Calculating the maximum.

Calculating the maximum is used to estimate the maximum possible amount of compensation from an OCPD policy based on the SDR exchange rate on a given day.
  1. Enter a value in the Total weight of the goods field.

The value can be entered in 3 ways:

  • drag the widget axis to the desired value,
  • click on the value given next to the calculator display,
  • enter a number in the field.

  1. Click the Calculate button.
  1. You will get the result, which is the maximum amount of compensation - in our example it is 153 thousand euros. This information tells us up to what amount the carrier is obliged to pay the claim of the ordering party for damaged or lost goods, only within the limits set by the CMR Convention.

Example 2:

  1. Setting filters: The selected currency is EUR, the converter - Tons, the carrier's liability - Verification.

  1. When you select: verification as the carrier's liability, 2 fields will appear on the calculator:
  • Total weight of the goods
  • Declared goods value

Enter the proper values in the fields and click the Calculate button.

  1. The calculator shows how much the carrier's liability is higher or lower than the value of the goods.

If the value of the goods is higher, you will be advised to purchase CARGO insurance.

In the above example, it is clear that the carrier's liability is lower than the actual value of the goods - if you are an ordering party and your goods are lost or damaged, you suffer a huge loss. In such a situation, it is recommended to purchase CARGO insurance, which protects the goods up to the full value of the insured sum.

The SDR calculator will help you assess the risk and negotiate with the carrier - verification of the carrier's liability will help protect you from financial losses in case of damage or loss of goods.
